Hello Dear Reader,
My name is Barbara Jean Cook and I’m a thirty-something single mom who loves gardening, cooking and nutrition. As a mother, feeding my children healthy, nutritious food is paramount to me. Other than their formal and spiritual education, I can not think of anything else that is more important than what I feed them and myself.
Although not formally trained, I have been cooking for myself and my family for more than 25 years. I’ve learned a few things along the way that I feel are worth sharing and look forward to opening a dialog with parents around the world.
My love of cooking eventually progressed to a love of growing as much of my own food as possible. Particularly as I began to research and truly understand how unhealthy most of the foods available for purchase at the grocery store are these days. It is really scary and dehumanizing to learn what corporations are willing to pass off as nutritious food. This spring will be my fourth year growing my own fruits and vegetables in my urban backyard in Houston, Texas.
This is the chronicle of my journey to be the best mother and provider I can be. I look forward to sharing with and learning from the global community.
